When I worked one of my first HS games (freshman b/g d/h), my partner was a grizzled old veteran that told me he always blew his whistle right before entering the gym for warmups, and that I should learn to do the same. He did this to warn the teams that the officials were coming, and then they wouldn't dunk during warmups and you would never start the game with T's.
