Overpronate means that you roll toward the arches of your feet when you run or walk. It tends to happen to people who have flat feet and no arch in their foot. This type of foot movement is not normal and can affect your knees because they end up rolling inward also.
The best way to combat overpronation is to wear an orthodic or have a shoe that is built for motion control. I do not recommend the Nike Shox because they tend to not have enough motion control. The Nike Force line of shoes are built for big guys and thus have better motion control.
The best shoe for overpronation is one that is straight lasted and you usually only find those in running shoes; running shoes are made with a carbon bottom sole (not rubber) and can make unwanted mark ups the basketball court really good.
