Game Hangover
I'm still feeling the effects from last night's game. It was the best game I've been involved with this year, which included a nice OT game a few weeks ago, and was an especially nice treat after Friday night's 20-0 game and the Saturday afternoon's 48-7 contest.
In last night's game the home team had an 18-0 lead in the third quarter (3 TDs, a missed kick and two unsuccessful 2-pt conversion attempts). The visitors fought back to take a 19-18 lead.
The home team scored another TD, followed by another failed 2-pt try attempt to make the score 24-19.
The visitors followed with a TD of their own and failed on their 2-pt try from the 80-yard line after a 5 yard delay of game penalty. There's now about 5 minutes left in the game.
After driving the length of the field the home team tallied another TD with about 1:30 left to make the score 30-25.
The visitors weren't done yet. They completed a couple of passes and eventually had a receiver get out of bounds at the 12 yard line with :04 left on the clock. On the final play of the game the QB found a wide open receiver in the end zone who dropped the pass.
A funny instance occurred during the final drive. We called the chains out for a measurement with the ball a couple of yards from the visitor's sideline. As we're bringing out the chains the head coach was nervously pacing the sidelines and finally asked us, "How can you remain so calm at a time like this?"
A game like that makes all of those lopsided scores seem like distant memories.
