Actually, the NBA prohibits its officials from doing many things which are
LEGAL as part of the contractual agreement. I don't agree with that, but understand why they wish to keep their people away from certain situations.
The primary example is legal gambling in casinos. NBA referees cannot go to a casino and play blackjack or poker, nor can they bet on NFL games or NCAA basketball games.
Furthermore, I don't believe that this has anything to do with morals. The NBA does it simply because it wishes to prevent its officials from becoming vulnerable due to developing a gambling problem or debts.
