No; my suggested response was INSTEAD of the one given to the coach. And, it was only half-serious, but after re-reading the OP, I noticed this:

Sounds like the comment about reading the rule book was said from a distance, and probably loud enough for others to hear, and was intended as a shot at the umpire. Maybe I was serious about tossing him.
