Any thoughts?

Worked two girls' AAU games this weekend, NCAA rules. Repeatedly, the shooter's teammate in the third spot was able to run behind the defender in the second space, gain inside position, and get the rebound. It reminds me of a NASCAR driver drafting on the last lap and passing for the win. It's definitely better to be behind. The offense had even more of an advantage than before. Maybe someone can explain why they did this.
