Doing an 18U PAL game last night. Goes into extra innings. Home team’s pitcher must be replaced since she has already pitched 7 innings. Apparently the coach hadn’t thought of this prior to the top of the 8th, so his new pitcher has not warmed up prior to taking the field. I give her my standard 5 pitches. After I call 3 balls in a row the coach yells: “Come on Blue, give her a brake on the strike zone, she didn’t warm up! (I guess it was my fault).
In the same inning, same coach. BR hits a single to left, takes a wide turn at 1B and returns to the base. Coach calls for time and demands that I call the BR out for running to 1B out of the base line. I tried to explain to him that the only time a runner is in jeopardy for being out of the base line is if there is a tag attempt , otherwise they can run anywhere they choose. His response, “then why do they have a double line down 1B?” I suggested he buy a rule book.
