The fielder was close enough to reach out and attempt to pick up the ball after it popped out of her glove; and while it was still slowly rolling into the basepath of the runner. The batter runners foot hit the ball a split second before the fielder could get to it... sending it into the dug-out. It was hot and maybe the PU didn't want to go into extra innings.
