He's actually facing directly toward first base with his left foot a good step ahead of his right foot. His left foot is pointed directly toward first, planted on the ground a good full step away from his right foot. It looked like the setup of a dance move or something. Oh, and for no reason at all, he takes his cap off and sticks it in his back pocket, leaving his nearly bald head for all the world to see.
