Julio Franco – 48 years, eight months, 12 days old – homered Friday night off Randy Johnson – 43 years, seven months, 25 days old. That's more than 92 years of ballplayer right there and, unfortunately for Johnson, the fastball Franco hit sort of looked it, considering its left turn signal was on for three miles.
Franco, of course, is the oldest player to hit a home run in the major leagues, a union of gerontology and baseball that began last April 20 and has extended through two more homers, the latest at Chase Field in Phoenix.
And now Johnson has a part, the two combining for the oldest home run in history, thrown-and-hit category.
