Women's WWII Baseball

I'm sure many have seen the Tom Hanks/Madonna/Rosie etc. movie "A League of Their Own."

There were some scenes in the movie that would make any umpire bristle, such as a verbal "fair ball" call and a girl catching a fly ball with her removed cap.

I'm assuming that the creators of the movie took theatrical license with these scenes to jazz up the movie a bit, but I also wonder if in fact during WWII women's baseball some of the rules were bent a bit to allow for more showmanship on the field, especially since the product itself had to be..., well, you know.
