Yes to both questions. On 3rd strike I ask partner to either make the closed fist at his belt or point one finger toward ground.
Re: the foul ball or hit by pitch. If I'm in the field and either occures then I kill play with a dead ball call, and let PU declare the foul ball or inteference with a fair ball. I've had BU just stand there though, untill I ask. Had a HBP last week in BB game.Batter ducked and turned in, F2 stood up and blocked me as I tried to track pitch. I thought ball skipped off batter's shoulder, but BU in C made no signal. Everbody froze, and I had to call across the infield to confirm the HBP. I explained to the newbee in post game that if he saw that to go ahead and kill the ball, that PU can use his signal as info in making his call.
