Hey all!! I'm a baseball ump, but do around 10 or so SB games a season. During a clinic last night, we discussed the 'book' zone vs. what i call the "zone of least resistance" (the one that everyone accepts). It was mentioned that the zone that the players/coaches want to see is basically the book zone turned sideways. Take away the high strike and low strike and widen the zone in the middle.
Now, as to that coach flying out of the dugout like a madman, why do some of us accept that behavior as appropriate? I certainly don't. This is a JV game, why the 'tension convention'?
