best un-heckle
Okay, I know we never would, but we've all slipped and heckled back, though only a couple times in my much, much earlier days..
Home team down by 1, last chance. R2, 0-1 count, coach gyrates at 3rd (signaling like a bee keeper with a bad bonnet). R2 stealing, pitch-out, out by 3 steps, even with bad high tag still out easily. I'm BU, "out" I hammers.
Coach fires right at me, "I can't BELIEVE your bad enough to call him out".
I lean in real close, "I can't believe you were bad enough to send him".
Sorry, ole ump Gods, it slipped, I won't ever do it again.
But then..
1 out, R1 off on contact, line drive short, in front of F4, he makes a great scooping catch. Flicks the ball towards a deep playing, now coming in F3.
F3 lunges and catches the flick, makes a stretched out swipe tag on R1, my partner (BU) comes directly to me, "did he get the tag?" "Yes" I say, "on the tag, runners out".
I'm about 20' up the line, in foul territory, working the angle, chrystal clear view.
1B coach, going to the 3 base dugout, ask's "did you really see a tag?"
I say, "What, didn't you see me back there flipping that coin? Oops.
Never again.
There must be more.
