In order for the basket to count:

If the foul is against the defense, then the shooter needs only to have started his normal shooting motion prior to the foul; even if the shooter is not the offensive player who was fouled.

If the foul is against an offensive player without the ball, the shot needs to have been released prior to the foul.

If the foul is a double foul involving an airborne shooter, the shot needs to have been released prior to the foul in order to count.
