They aren't passed off at all. The L's coverage area extends from halfway thru the paint, up to the FT line, then all the way across to the sideline, and back down to the baseline. It's a complete rectangle. So, since it's in L's primary, the L has the shooter the entire time. The T is essentially watching the paint/post area for rebounding at that time.
