It is too relavent. If the officials let the play continue without killing it immediately upon the rebound you have then created a correctable error situation by letting the play continue down the court with the clock running.
Allowing the rebound and eventual trip up the court means the
free throw has ended. It is now too late to cancel any subsequent action.
