At our state meeting, the head of officials said in front of the coaches as well as officials that assistants are there to coach players and that is all. The first time you hear from them tell the coach to control his bench before you have to, and if you hear from them again, start using the whistle. It sounds from your situation that you should have thrown the T earlier in the game. With 48 seconds left it makes it a little more difficult to take care of.
