Yesterday, I'm a WH for an 8th grade middle school game. I talk to the home team coach, and ask him if he has any special plays. He tells me when he runs a fake punt he's going to make a mass substitution, keep one guy close to them on the sideline, and run the other 10 guys out there. If no one covers the wideout, they'll snap the ball to an up back who will throw the ball out to the WR.
I told the coach it was illegal, and you can guess what he said.
"But they did it in the USC game."

You actually have an easier out. Coach - we don't use NCAA rules, and this play is illegal in FED. That should kill it. He's almost definitely not smart enough to know that the play is also illegal in NCAA rules.
