Just some interesting tidbits:
Last night, as I was watching the Cubs game (yes, I'm still watching...sigh...), they mentioned that according to Chuck's Sports Bureau, the Cubs have now set the major league record for the most number of pitching changes in a season. (I was thinking it was 422, but I was too numb to be listening closely.) So I guess we can't complain that Dusty's doing nothing?
The next has to do with the Cardinals and their (maybe historic) collapse. If they finish out the season Sunday night within a half game of Houston, they would have to play a rainout makeup game with the Giants on Monday night. The Giants, meanwhile, plan on finishing their season on Sunday night, and I'm sure most of them have their flights booked for the Bahamas, Florida, Bakersfield, or wherever they go in the off-season. Now they might instead have to fly to St. Louis for the makeup game. Wonder how many of the starters will go? Then, from the Cardinals' perspective, if they end up after that game tied with Houston, they would have to fly to Houston for the play-in game, and, if they won that, then fly to either N.Y. or San Diego to start the playoffs on Wed. night. So they have the possiblility of playing 3 games in 3 cities in 3 days.
What's football got to compare to that?
