They are named after the Greek myth. When Jason went off in search of the Golden Fleece, he sailed on a ship called the Argo, hence his men were the Argonauts.
They have a student dressed up as a Greek warrior -- a bit like the Michigan State Spartan. Sometimes they call him Jason. Sometimes they call him "Argie."
But since the school emblem is a chambered nautilus, a lot of opponents call them the "Fighting Snails."
