As much as I disdain the true "jock sniffer" who seems to know what so-and-so MLB umpire had for breakfast on any given day, I have kept up with the identification by number (it is a handy little system), what kind of stance they use, what kind of strike zone they have, etc. I also love to critique their work, and pick and choose the ones I think are very good, and the ones I think aren't as good. That does not make anyone who does this "creepy" or a "groupie." Why the big fuss over the players? I find the umpires to be much more fascinating. A rat is just a rat to me. Sorry. I would much rather wear an umps number on my sleeve, than sport a rat's number on my back.
