Public Severe Weather Outlook
Nws Storm Prediction Center Norman Ok
1124 Am Cdt Fri Sep 22 2006

...numerous Severe Thunderstorms Expected Over Parts Of The Ozarks
Into The Mid Mississippi Valley This Afternoon And Tonight...

The Nws Storm Prediction Center In Norman Oklahoma Is Forecasting
The Development Of A Few Strong...long-track Tornadoes Over Parts Of
The Ozarks Into The Mid Mississippi Valley This Afternoon And
Tonight.

The Areas Most Likely To Experience This Activity Include

Western...central And Northern Arkansas
Central And Southern Illinois
Southern...central And Eastern Missouri
Eastern Oklahoma

Surrounding The Moderate Risk Area...a Slight Risk Of Severe
Thunderstorms Extends From Portions Of The Southern Plains Into The
Lower Ohio Valley

An Unseasonably Strong Storm System Drifting Slowly West Across The
Nrn Plains Will Draw Very Warm And Humid Surface Air Northward
Across The Mississippi And Lower Ohio Valleys This Afternoon And
Tonight. At Upper Levels...fast Southwest Flow Will Persist Through
Tonight Over Much Of The Central United States...where Upper Level
Jet Stream Wind Speeds Will Exceed 100 Mph.

The Nrn Plains Upper Storm Will Be Joined Later Today And Tonight
By Another Upper System Presently Over The Central Rockies As A Band
Of Even Stronger Jet Stream Flow Moves Out Of The Great Basin Into
The Plains.

The Combination Of Increasing Moisture...daytime Heating And
Strong...clockwise Turning Wind Profiles With Height Will Create A
Setup Favorable For Sustained...rotating Thunderstorms From Eastern
Oklahoma And The Ozarks Northeast Into The Mid Mississippi And Lower
Ohio Valleys. Additional Storms May Redevelop Over Much Of The Same
Region Tonight And Early Saturday As The Central Rockies System
Strengthens And Moves East Into The Plains.

While Thunderstorms Will Produce Some Damaging Wind And Severe
Hail...the Greatest Severe Threat Will Be Tornadoes...some Of Which
Could Be Strong And Long-lived Especially From The Mid Afternoon
Into The Overnight Hours.

Those In The Threatened Area Are Urged To Review Severe Weather
Safety Rules And To Listen To Radio...television...and Noaa Weather
Radio For Possible Watches...warnings...and Statements Later Today.
