Go ahead and put me in the third camp as well. Without question the NBA officials are best at doing what they do.

It made me think of the difference between the games when it comes to the influence of the official's calls on player participation.

Football: Red Cashion (sp?) could report that so-and-so was "giving him the business," but could never cause that player to be removed from the game because he "gave him the business" 5 times in a game.

Basketball: Of course we know that a player only has 5 fouls and they are out. (I know it is 6 in the pro game. I just forget because I don't watch it much anymore). In most cases if a player picks up 2 in the first half they are forced to the bench. The number of fouls a player is already charged with will influence the way they play the game. This gives basketball officials a greater influence on the participation of the star players.
