The Chicago Tribune had the same basic story today. Methinks that there's nuthin' much to it. Hell, the guy did win an MVP last year; you don't unload him just for having a bad stretch. The other part of it too is that A-Rod is getting about $27 mil a year for the next 4 years, but Texas is paying around $52 mil total of that. That means the Yanks only have to pay him about 14 mil a year. If they replace A-Rod with a top-flight free agent like Soriano or trade for Abreau, they're still gonna be on the hook for about the same kinda money but they aren't really upgrading their ballclub imo.
The Yanks need pitching, not hitting.
