It does not bother me if my partners use the multiple whistles, but I still think it is best to not get in the habit. As far as getting attention for the wrecks, I think the hard whistle will do just as well as multiple.
The only positive about the way that I use them (and this is probably just justification in my own mind) is that if my partner(s) hear the multiple tweets they know the ball will be going the other way because we had a violation.
