Maybe the same reason that an MiBL blue wrote in an email.. The replacement is a scrub that is not as good as the actual blue so stick him at 3rd where he could do the least amount of damage. Yes an MiBL ump wrote that concerning the fill in at for the striking Mibl blues.
In reality the crew prolly decided on what would work best for them and went from there. Other than that no reason I imagine.
