Coach asking questions
HS Varsity game and big district contest.
Ball overthrown at 3rd.
Ball sticks in the fence. I'm PU and kill the play to make the awards etc.,
The coach asks me why we killed the play since the player made a play on the ball - typical "I've never seen that called before in all my life".
His rationale is that in the outfield we tell the players if you go for the ball we play on. Why do we not do the same here ...
Have to admit it was all I could do to keep from a chuckle. I asked him if F1 throws a pass ball and it sticks in the fence do we kill it?
What about an overthrow at first that sticks under a fence or under the tarp etc.,
Then I explained to him that in the outfield we don't know for sure if the ball is stuck. If they go get it etc., If they throw hands up etc.,
To my amazement, my BU asked me after the game why I killed the play?
Got some more training to do.
Thanks
David
