Most times coaches behave themselves but I have a hard time blocking out their comments. Sometimes when they beg for a call or they point out a call, it makes it very difficult for me to blow the whistle because I don't want it to seem like I'm responding to what they're asking for. It's good to know how and what they can say. Everything other than, "that's a good call ref..." usually raises my blood pressure when I'm doing the job...
What you may need are some simple verbal acknowledgments to the coaches to let them know that you heard them:
"I'll watch for that."
"I'm looking for that."
"I understand."
"Love your tie."
