Last night, I had a tie-up just before the third quarter ended. The whistle clearly sounded before the buzzer. Naturally, my partner and I waved it off.
Team A had the arrow, so we were prepared to give it to them after the quarter ended. The coach from team B spent his break telling us that because we signalled it, that should count as A's alternating possession. I explained that since the ball was never put in play, it was still A's possession.
Here's the fun part. He actually wanted us to put time on the clock so that team A got their alternating possession with no time to do anything, thus giving it to his team at the beginning of the quarter. His argument was that the whistle came before the buzzer (which it did). Please tell me I'm right, and there's no way that you put half a second on the clock for a throw-in in that sitch.
