Why would having a deaf scorekeeper make a difference? Although verbal communication helps to clarify things, hand signals can be used to indicate anything that happens in a game.
Imagine those that referee/score at the Olypics, on many occasions there would be no common language (although these days most have a "working" knowledge of English).
We have, on occasion, refereed games without talking
at all just for training, really makes the emphasis on good mechanics!
