This question came up at a tournament this past weekend...from a coach. FED rules. His team had only 8 players. #4 was playing as Libero. #2 was his sub and had already gone in for #3.

If another player on the floor was hurt (not #3) and had to leave the game, could the #4 Libero act as the exceptional sub or was the lone player on the bench (#2) required to be the exceptional sub.

Here's what I answered him...let me know if I'm right.

When it comes to an exceptional sub - the rules say that "any legal player" may replace the injured player. The libero can also enter a game as an exceptional sub. Basically then, this leaves the choice up to the coach on who will replace the injured player. His choice - #4 or #2.

Was I right?

Here is another "kink" to add. Since the players are not allowed to change uniforms on the floor or bench...if the coach chose to enter the Libero, would she have to change uniforms? If so, you wait till she changes? Or does she do this during a charged time-out?
