One thing I forgot to mention, Adam. If this is an "invitational" tournament, it's quite likely that the host team simply invited teams that they knew they could beat. Many invitational tournaments are rigged by the home team so that they have a 95% chance of winning their own tournament -- they just invite weaker teams. That's a much more plausible explanation than the refs handing them the games.
