ASA, Fed, and NCAA are now working on using the same set of mechanics. That's kinda strange, I've been using the same all along. I understand that the 2002 ASA rule book will not have the umpire mechanics section. That will be put into a second book. Guess that will be anther book that our local commissioner doesn't hand out - getting rule books from him was like pulling teeth. You'd think that the cost for each book was coming from his pocket.
I know what you mean. In the year 2000 our NFHS Chapter
did not even hand out the rule books. Like this year, we
have yet to register. The last Umpires Manual I got was
for 1996 and 1997 combined. I am thinking of just calling
Local UIL office [Austin] and seeing if they will send me
and test and let me register. They did one year. That was
I believe in 1998.
