Players who enter the game in NFHS are NOT required to remain in the game for any amount of time. Only players who LEAVE the game are required to remain out for a tick of the clock. 3-3-4
The NBA has a rule that a player who enters must remain in for 1 second on the game clock.
The problem with your situation is that the first substitute for the bleeding player who was due FTs is now required to shoot those FTs. Therefore, this first substitute cannot be removed from the game until those FTs are attempted.
So you were right, but for a different rule. 8-2 is the proper cite.
