I'm right there with you, I learned a lot of stuff at camp this past summer and I was exposed to some NBA philosophy as well. The way I look at the game has been much different since, and I think I'm a much better official for it. It think above all the NBA stuff gave me a much better understanding of self evaluation and generally why we do certain things on the floor. The other thing here though is that a lot of what NBA officials do is predicated on the NBA game and the quality of officials at that level. Some stuff that NBA guys do seamlessly could really screw up a very good high school crew and cause everyone to have a bad game. Again, the right mechanics are to put everyone in the crew in a great position to call the obvious and make the right call and that optimal position differs based on the game and the crew.
