I went to a varsity game last night to watch the officials as the referee is someone I consider an unofficial mentor. Now this guy has worked some big college ball, always in control of a game, great all-around person & official. He always likes to help people out.

So at halftime the school we were at puts about 15 hotdogs, pretzels, and waters in the officials locker room. After we all ate there was still plenty left. Not hesitating for a second he walks out of the locker room and gets two small kids asking if they wanted something to eat. He said "hey guys come on in we got some hotdogs and stuff for you to have." The kid (not used to having someone be so nice) responds "you're not going to rape us are you?"

Knowing this referee it was as funny as heck to have him asked that kind of question because it caught (as well as anyone) him soooo off guard. Of course we abused him a little bit after the kids left. In all seriousness it's not all that funny, but with the way our society is these days it's unfortunate that kids think this way and it's justified with what you hear on the news. We just wouldn't get over the comment it was like WHAT?????

The kids were extremely thankful.
