I am entering my 3rd year this time around and attended a summer camp a couple of weeks ago. We were implementing the new rules including the team control foul. We worked games with more experienced officials. He called a foul on the offensive team and then called for shots at the other end. Everyone was confused as was I. He was T & I was watching off ball post play when the call was made. Before shots were administered, I came up to him and asked, "What do you have?" "Foul on blue offense, shooting the bonus." "Was it a team control foul or had a shot gone up?", I asked. "No shot. Team control." "So, should we be putting this ball in play at POI as this may be under one of the new rules?" "You are right. No shots. I will go explain things to the coaches."

Mind you, that I was speaking to him away from all players and table personnel in a low tone so only the two of us could hear the conversation. He was able to give instructions as to the new rule without embarrassment and the game went on. A couple of years ago, I would have acted like a know-it-all. Your partner will eventually be hung out to dry and hopefully, he will learn from the experience.
