Being in shape is only one part of officiating. You can be in complete shape and not be able to see plays properly. Also working with the same partner of course has its advantages. I used to work with very specific partners as well. But the problem is that you tend to stop doing many of the things you need to do because you know your partner so well. I am not at all saying you should not work with the same partner, I just think it is harder to not cut corners. I work with some guys I want to work with, and I work with guys I have no control of. When I work with guys I do not see very often, I have to get make sure I follow the mechanics and communications pretty much by the accepted standards.
