yes, 2005 rule book, 1-5-1, f.1 a, as long as the metal cannot be chipped or develop a cutting edge. Most of these spikes have the round carbon metal tip to prevent ware on the clete itself.
This rule has a lot of techinical stuff and should be read from the rule book.
