I don't remember any such thing in the book like that, if she holds the bat still in the zone and the ball rolls on the ground over the plate, it is a ball (as long as no attempt toward the ball is made) so how would holding the bat square take away the HBP award?? Am I missing something???
It cannot. Your friend is either clueless or thinking of another game. If the batter doesn't try to hit the ball or it's in the strike zone, she gets 1B.
