No, he's just being nice. He figures that if he keeps saying nice things about all the lousy refs around, sooner or later, one of them will actually live up to his praise and improve and then he can say, "I worked with him/her when he/she was just starting out!" I can tell you for sure it won't be me, because I'm old, fat and slow. He should concentrate more on Jesse, who will actually have a reffing career of note. Then Mark and I ( and a growing number of ol' boys in the PBOA) can say together, "We helped him! We used to know him! I remember when he was just a kid" and so on.
