If the player is using the uniform to "dry" it, then it's an open wound and needs to be taken care of. I'm just wondering if there was a little too much conversation with the players in this case. Once there's a determination there's an open wound, go to the coach and tell them they need to fix the problem or replace the player. If the player needs an explanation, the coach can explain it to them. If the coach wants them to play again, it's their job to fix it. It's not our job to figure out if it's easy to cover, if it will present a problem to the player, if it will look funny, etc. I wonder if the problem with the other official was spending too much time talking to the player on the bench? I can see where the coach might have a problem with an official talking to a player on the bench and making that player upset. Sometimes we as officials end up talking too much instead of just providing the basic, needed info and moving on.
