He didn't. He said, "Told ya" which actually falls into a gray area. The Miss Manners etiquette book lists "I told you so" as the officially incorrect wording. Other phrasing, when it implies a relationship of gentle ribbing can be acceptable, depending on how the speaker inflects the voice. If no offense is intended, and none is taken, then the exchange can be considered to have been correct.
