I was living near Vegas and I went to UNLV's first home game after they won the NCAA championship (1990???). They unfurled the banner. The opponent was Princeton. There was an editorial the next day in a NY Metro newspaper that referred to the fact that UNLV managed to stay together, and the reason offered was that they didn't want to take the pay cut, if they went pro.
