You sitch doesn't say if there are any runners on base. Cowboy fan almost right but jenkins was way off. Remember that in addition to awarding bases the illegal mitt shall be removed from the game. There is no penalty to the player using the illegal mitt.
If no runners on base. Caught fly ball.
1. Per 8-3-3a: Award batter 4 bases IF the touch/catch with illegal equipment prevented home run.
2. Per 8-3-3b: Award batter three bases.
In both cases the award would be from the base occupied at the time of the infraction 8-3-5a.
But suppose there were runners on base. Caught fly ball.
1. Per 8-3-3a all runners would be awarded home and each runner would score if awarded bases touched in order.
2. Per 8-3-3b: all runner would be awarded home and batter would be awarded 3rd.
Comment: since the award to all runners takes them to home none of the runners can advance beyond home to be put out. Therefore no matter how many runners were thrown out or declared out on action following the catch all outs would be negated after making the award after ball become dead. The award is made because applying 8-3-4 the batter (who thought he was out and probably did not run) did not make it to 3rd base before the ball became dead so umpire could inspect the mitt.
Finally suppose the ball was touched by illegal glove but not caught. Again the ball remains alive until time called to inspect the illegal mitt (8-3-4). Since runners will be awarded home in all cases any outs on them will be negated. The only thing to consider is what happened to the batter.
1. Per 8-3-31: Again if touch by illegal mitt prevented home run the all runners awarded 4 bases. All outs on play are negated even if batter is thrown out at home.
2. Per 8-3-3b: If at the end of playing action all runners score and batter ends up at third then the infraction is ignored meaning no bases are awarded.
In all cases where the batter is thrown out at 1st, 2nd, or 3rd base then all runners would be awarded home and the batter would be placed on third.
Finally, if the batter was thrown out at the plate, all runners would be awarded home but since the batter went beyond the base he would have received per the award (3rd) the out stands.
