Earlier there was a post regarding the FLEX/DP positions.
In ASA, is there a FLEX? I have a 2002 rule book and cannot find it. Has that been added since?
If the Flex is a valid designation in ASA, then for the batting order, the Flex and DP are joined at the hip. My line up would have the DP batting 5th and the Flex listed in the #10 spot.
At any time can I choose to bat the Flex in the #5 spot or the DP in the #5 spot (depending on situation - Flex may be a needed bunter, where DP may be a power hitter).??
When I start the game, DP is batting that 5 spot, but I am using Flex on defense to Pitch. The DP is a benchwarmer.
Suppose I want to give my left fielder a break in the 2nd Inning, can I put the DP in for her on defense and F7 still batting in her regular position while Flex is still pitching? Then in 3rd inning, DP goes in for F8 while flex still pitching but F8 still bats in her position?
Am I correct in understanding that DP and Flex can be in on defense at the same time while maintaining my original batting line up?
Also, am I correct in understanding that on offense, the Flex or DP can only bat in the #5 position in my example?
I know there are some rules as to if Flex actually subs or something like that, but that's not an issue for what we're doing..
Thanks for any input!
