I didn't want to hijack the facemask thread so I started this one.
ASA was soundly rediculed for the chinstrap rule when it was implemented,
I too thought it was rediculous but I have to say I have seen fewer injuries and more live ball time since it came into effect.
I worked an Fed rules tourney this week at Disney for schools from many states and I have to tell you, the lack of chin straps caused a lot of time outs and team warnings etc.
The helmets just didn't stay on for many of them. The helmets appeared to fit properly but came off while running.
The coaches worked with us and really got on the girls about the issue.
I had one injury to a runner from a slap tag that got her ear,
One injury to a fielder who tripped over a helmet that had just fallen off during a play
We had a whole lot of time outs called so they could retrieve their helmets.

I like the chin straps if only for the reason they do allow the game to progress more quickly.

Then you have the safety aspect that is a definate plus.

Just my .02 worth.
