Okay, sorry, but this one has been beat to death over on the MCGriff board!
The play is perfectly legal. By definition, the first receiver never caught the first pass since he didn't touch the ground, the ball was never in player possession of the first receiver, and, therefore, he did not pass the ball to the second receiver.
