I was at this game and the whole story isn't being told here.
The Valley City player had a broken nose at the time and Kerschmann didn't just hit him in the head, he hit him in the middle of the face with the ball, basically looked like he was trying to push the ball right through his face. Klabo was down in a defensive stance and there was no one on the other side of him to pass to. The hit gave Klabo a bloody nose.
Now I am not condoning what Matt did, but the official really should have done something because it looked pretty intentional to me, judging by the reaction at the time and now his comments, I think the official might have let his personal feelings about the player get in the way a little here.
Also, no one is reporting on the Tech's Coach Walsh and the reprehesible tirade he threw at the time of the incident. Walsh charged over to the Valley City bench and had to be physically restrained by the officials, all the while screaming obscenities to the Valley City coaching staff, players and fans; and I mean screaming I could hear it from the other side of the gym, no technical given to Coach Walsh, his assistant coach was threatened with one before he sat down.
All in all, the reporting on this incident has been pretty poor.
